In her career spanning over two decades Thea Gilmore has long secured a place as one of the UKs most gifted and celebrated singer/songwriters. Since first stepping out aged 18 she has released 17 albums and 6 EPs, every one with international critical acclaim and all before the age of 40. 

Gilmore was born in Oxford to Irish parents. She became interested in music as a result of her father's record collection, which included work by Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, and The Beatles. Later, she listened to Elvis Costello, Tom Waits, and The Replacements, among others. Having always written poetry and stories, she began seriously writing songs at the age of 15.

Thea Gilmore released her first album entitled Burning Dorothy, in 1998 and over the course of 20 + years, released increasingly well-received albums that has earned her a reputation within the UK music press, unfortunately this wasn’t reflected in her chart positions. 

Her music has been used in the BAFTA award winning film Bait (2019) as well as Blithe Spirit (2021). She has been playlisted on BBC radio 2 on 22 occasions, performed live with Jools Holland’s Rhythm and Blues Orchestra, as well as appearing on his TV show Later with Jools Holland. She has worked with and been admired by many musicians such as Bruce Springsteen, Joan Baez, John Cooper Clarke, Billy Bragg, the Waterboys, I Am Kloot, King Creosote, Steve Earle, Martha Wainwright, Beth Orton, Neil Gaiman, Cara Dillon & Seth Lakeman.

In 2011 she released 'Don't Stop Singing' a collaboration with the late Sandy Denny. The following year, the CD single ‘London’ was released from the album and featured on the BBC coverage of the London 2012 Olympics, framing the montage of team GB’s medal winners.

Thea started a Patreon programme, not new, Mozart did it! A group of fans pay a monthly subscription to have two new songs exclusively sent to them every month.
